Did You Get Engaged Over the Holidays? Here’s Your Wedding Planning Checklist As We Head Into the New Year

Updated: Jan 6

The holiday season is filled with joy, love, and surprises—and for many couples, it’s also engagement season! If you’ve recently said “yes” to the love of your life, congratulations! This magical time of year makes your engagement even more special. Now, as we head into 2025, it’s time to begin planning your dream wedding. To help you get started, the team at Ivory & Main has created this wedding planning checklist for newly engaged brides!

1. Celebrate and Share the News

Before diving into wedding planning, take time to enjoy the moment. Celebrate with your partner, share the news with family and friends, and snap some engagement photos to commemorate this exciting chapter while all of the pretty holiday decor and twinkle lights are still up!

2. Set a Budget

A clear budget is the foundation of successful wedding planning. Sit down with your partner (and anyone else contributing financially) to determine how much you want to spend. Don’t forget to allocate funds for your dream bridal gown from Ivory & Main Curvy Bridal Boutique!

3. Choose a Date and Venue

One of the first big decisions is selecting your wedding date and venue. Consider whether you want a springtime celebration, a summer soiree, or perhaps a winter wonderland wedding. Popular venues book up quickly, so start researching and scheduling tours as soon as possible.

4. Build Your Guest List

Creating your guest list early helps you estimate the size of your wedding and influences many planning decisions, from venue capacity to catering. Work with your partner to decide on a rough headcount and start gathering addresses for save-the-dates and invitations.

5. Pick a Wedding Theme or Style

Do you envision a rustic barn wedding, a glamorous black-tie affair, or a romantic garden celebration? Choosing a theme or style will guide your decisions on decor, the menu, and of course, your wedding gown.

6. Find Your Dream Gown

This is where Ivory & Main comes in! As a curvy bride, you deserve a gown that makes you feel beautiful and confident. Book an appointment at our Sayville, New York bridal boutique to explore our collection of plus-size bridal gowns. From classic lace to modern glamour, we’ll help you find the dress that matches your vision. Dreaming of something very specific? Schedule a consultation with the Ivory & Main Atelier to explore custom-design dress options.

Your search for the perfect gown should begin about 12-14 months prior to your wedding date in order to have access to all designers.  Each designer has a different processing time, so shopping within less than one year before your wedding date may restrict your search. However, we can accommodate shopping for your wedding under the one-year mark. Be sure to bring this to your stylist's attention when booking your appointment.

7. Hire Key Vendors

Photographers, florists, caterers, and entertainment are essential to bringing your wedding to life. Start researching vendors early, read reviews, and book your favorites before their calendars fill up.

8. Plan the Details

Once the big decisions are made, focus on the details. This includes designing your invitations, selecting your wedding party, planning your ceremony, and choosing your menu. Don’t forget to think about special touches like personalized favors or a signature cocktail!

9. Take Time for Yourself

Wedding planning can feel overwhelming, so remember to take breaks and enjoy your engagement. Schedule date nights with your partner and make time for self-care. You deserve to savor this exciting time in your life. For more tips check out our blog How to Practice Self Care While Wedding Planning.

10. Stay Flexible

Lastly, remember that not everything will go exactly as planned, and that’s okay. Focus on what matters most: celebrating your love and starting your new life together.

At Ivory & Main, we’re here to help make your wedding journey as magical as your engagement. Whether you’re just starting to plan or are ready to say “I do,” our team is dedicated to helping you shine on your special day.
